What's Sintered Bronze Bushing
Sintered bronze bushings is a a type of bushing with specific and special characteristics. It was made of bronze powder compacted in high pressure conditions and treated at high temperature. Once the sintering process has given a shape to the powder, the bush is then calibrated to reach certain dimensional and tolerances. Subsequently, bushings are impregnated with special lubricating oil that fill open material porosity.
This type of bushing procedure belongs to the interesting powder metallurgy world, is a product with special characteristics, suitable for high sliding speeds, low loads and high precision applications, especially for low or absent lubrication operating conditions.
Sintered Bronze Material:
Sintered Bronze material consists of high proportionof copper, as well as the carefully chosen types of graphite and silicate resulting in high wear resistance of the part even under high energy conditions. SAE841 is the often used material code for sintered bronze bushing.
1. Sintered:Bronze powder is pressed into the desired bushing shape by mould and then heated to a specific temperature, causing the particles to bond together to form a solid, but porous, matrix
2. Impregnation:After sintering, the porous bronze structure is submerged in a hot lubricant, such as mineral oil, which fills the voids and creates a self-lubricating bearing.
